Continuity and Change: YIVO’s Impact on the Oyneg Shabes Archive
We invite you to a panel discussion in the "Thursdays at Tłomackie Street" series at the Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw, September 11, 18:00 PM.
This year we are approaching an anniversary of the discovery of the first part of the Underground Archive of the Warsaw Ghetto (September 18, 1946) which connects with the 100th anniversary of the establishment of YIVO (Yidisher Visnshaftlekher Institut, or Yiddish Scientific Institute), the leading institution for scholarship in Yiddish and about the history and culture of East European Jews.
To celebrate both events, on September 11, 2025, in the Jewish Historical Institute, a panel discussion regarding the close relationships between both institutions (personal, ideological, organizational) shall be held.
The panel discussion will be moderated by Dr. Agnieszka Żółkiewska, with the following specialists participating in the discussion:
Dr. Aleksandra Bańkowska (The Institute of Philosophy and Sociology (IFIS PAN))
Dr. Eleonora Bergman (The Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw)
Dr. Maria Ferenc (University of Wrocław, The Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw).
The event is a part of a program organized by the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research in New York and the Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw.
