Dr. Anastasiia Simferovska is an art historian, literary scholar, and cultural historian of modern East Europe. Dr. Simferovska holds a Ph.D. in Art History from Lviv National Academy of Arts, Ukraine, and is finalizing her Ph.D. in Slavic Literatures and Jewish Studies at Northwestern University, USA.
In June 2026, Simferovska is the Conny Kristel EHRI-ERIC Fellow at the Emmanuel Ringelblum Jewish Historical Institute. During her time at ŻIH, Simferovska seeks to explore Polish and Polish-Jewish narratives on the escape from Sobibor, particularly the October 14, 1943, revolt. She aims to analyze how Polish Jews narrated their experience and how these narratives differed based on the time, language, and purpose of their creation.
Simferovska seeks to show how the memory and representation of Sobibor uprising differed in Poland from that in the USSR, where it became the most politicized historical narrative about the Holocaust.
The EHRI-ERIC Conny Kristel Program supports research and documentation on the Holocaust. It facilitates international access to an unprecedented range of key archives and collections related to the Holocaust, as well as access to expertise in archival science and digital humanities.
The Conny Kristel Fellowships are funded by the European Holocaust Research Infrastructure (EHRI), which is an independent European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC).
