We invite you to the conference at the Massuah Institute in Tel Itzhak in Israel, organised by the Massuah International Institute for Holocaust Studies in collaboration with the Polish Institute and the Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw. The conference will be held at the Massuah Institute, on Wednesday, 27.9.2023.

09:00 – gathering and light refreshments

09:30-09:45 – Greetings: Aya Ben-Naftali, CEO of Massuah, and Magdalena Kusztal, director of the Polish Institute in Israel

09:45-11:15 – On solidarity during the Holocaust in the "Oneg Shabbat" archives

Monika Krawczyk, director of the Jewish Historical Institute: Responsibility and Altruism in the Warsaw Ghetto, as that appear in the Ong Shabbat archive (in English)

Dr. Katarzyna Person, the Jewish Historical Institute: Solidarity in the Warsaw Ghetto – the variety of voices in the Ringelblum Archive (in English)

Should the convicts be forbidden to enjoy beauty?
On 25th November, 1940, a few days after the closing of the Warsaw Ghetto, in the building of the Main Judaic Library in Tłomackie took place the first concert of the Jewish Symphony Orchestra. The program included two pieces by Beethoven: „Coriolan” Overture and Piano Concert Es-dur; Auber’s Overture for „The Dumb Girl of Portici”, and Grieg’s suite „Peer Gynt”. The entire profit from the concert was donated to the Jewish Welfare Society.
