We invite you to watch a short film about Anielewicz’s Mound, which was one of the most important places of Jewish Warsaw, which we will be passing by during this year’s March of Remembrance. About the history of the Staff of the Jewish Fighting Organization talks Mr Jan Jagielski.

ZOB’s headquarters was located at 29 Miła Street. When the hiding place was discovered during the uprising, it was moved to the shelter at 18 Miła Street. Probably as a result of betrayal, on 8th May, also this place was discovered. German troops along with Ukrainian auxiliary troops surrounded the bunker. In dramatic circumstances, the Jewish fighters committed mass suicide.

Jews in the Warsaw Uprising
On 1st August, 1944 at 5pm an uprising broke out in Warsaw. Among the fighters were also Jews. Some of them had participated previously in the bloodily suppressed uprising in the Warsaw Ghetto and then in guerrilla fights in the forests. The autonomous platoon of the Jewish Fighting Organisation belonging to Armia Ludowa (People's Army) was the only strictly Jewish fighting formation among the insurgents.

75. anniversary of blowing up the Great Synagogue in Warsaw
On 16th May, 1943 not only the most impressive synagogue in Warsaw but also the entire Jewish district ceased to exist. Destruction of the synagogue was a symbolic act of the triumph over the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, which had been ongoing since 19th April 1943. The person responsible for the bloody suppression of the uprising was Jürgen Stroop. In his report he wrote down a characteristic sentence, “Es gibt keinen jüdischen Wohnbezirk in Warschau mehr!”
