Library opening hours:

Monday – Thursday: 9 am – 7 pm,

Friday: 9 am – 3 pm.


The JHI’s library holds over 80 thousand volumes on the topics of Jewish history, culture and religion. It is the largest collection in Poland concerning these subject areas. The collection includes priceless manuscripts and prints — the oldest manuscript dates back to the 10th century! We have a wide selection of literature on the topic of the Holocaust, old Jewish prints, classic Jewish literature and classic Polish and world literature translated to Yiddish and Hebrew. The books, as well as the collection of over 2,5 thousand periodicals, can be accessed in the Institute’s Reading Room.

Using the JHI’s Library

The collections of books and periodicals can be accessed in the Reading Room after leaving one’s signature in the library’s book of records. The originals of old prints and manuscripts are available on request, subject to the presentation of a letter of recommendation from university authorities or other research institutions.

Opening hours:

Monday — Thursday: 9:00 — 17.00

Friday: 9:00–15:00.

Items requested from the library are provided until 5 p.m.

(2.30 p.m. on Fridays).

Items requested from the archives are provided until 3.30 p.m.

(2.30 p.m. on Fridays).
