The Early Studies in Biblical Hebrew in Poland and Eastern Europe

The early European Semitic linguistic studies and investigation of Biblical Hebrew was, in fact, a sequence of the Reformation wave in Europe that actively advanced from the very beginning of the 16th century. It was the Reformation that opened in Europe a new era of wide and systematic studies in the Hebrew original of the Bible and simultaneously – an era of studies in Semitic languages on the basis of comparativemethods. It is essential to note that the early European scholars adopted the Jewish medieval grammar theory, and this new-made hybrid became the main type of Biblical Hebrew grammars till now.
