The Jewish Historical Institute focuses entirely on the study of the history and culture of Polish Jews. It is the largest depository of Jewish-related archival documents, books, journals, ritual and art objects.
The preservation of collections that document ten centuries of Jewish experience in Poland allows for research and education to be carried on. We believe that education makes people aware of the history that Poles and Jews shared and helps to overcome stereotypes.

Polish edition of Menachem Begin's memoirs will be presented. The speakers will be Prof. Arye Naor of Ben Gurion University and Dr. Laurence Weinbaum of the World Jewish Congress.
Venue: Jewish Historical Institute (ZIH), exhibition hall in the Blue Tower at Bankowy Sq., Warsaw.
Teachers (secondary and high school) and educators are invited to enroll at the Summer School of Jewish History and Culture at ZIH. The lectures, workshops and tours will last June 25 through 29.

July 22, 1942, was the beginnning of the Grosse Aktion (Great Action) in the Warsaw Ghetto. German authorities announced that most Jews living in the ghetto would be resettled to the East. In fact they were transported to the death camp at Treblinka, where they were murdered upon arrival in the gas chambers. Adam Czerniakow, the head of Judenrat, committed suicide in protest against the crime. From July 22 to September 21 over 265,000 Jews were deported from Warsaw and killed at Treblinka.

ZOOM, Polish-Jewish Youth Organization, offers new workshops for high school students. The project is supported by European Commission funds. The peer workshop is a chance to meet and exchange ideas with Jewish students from Warsaw, to discuss multicultural background of our city and the way stereotypes emerge and influence our thinking.
The Jury of the 7th Jewish Motifs Internationa Film Festival has awarded Gift for Stalin , a film by Rustem Abdrashov (a coproduction of Kazahstan, Russia, Poland, Israel). Other awards went to Moshe Zimmerman (Israel) for his Pizza at Auschwitz, to Michel Prazan (France) for his Einsatzgruppen - Death Brigades, to Benjamin Freidenberg (Israel) for his A Tour with a Guide, and many others.
