Łódź will hold the fifth edition of The Memorial Days. Between the 25th and 27th of January you will be able to participate in lectures, plays, exhibitions, screenings of documentary films. It will be a celebration of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day established by the UN on the 27th of January.
The S. Jaracz Theater will hold an exhibition of Menachem Kipnis’ photographs. This extraordinary singer, writer, folklorist and populizer of music made the art of photography his great passion. We owe him the magnificent and educational, though no less artistic, documents showing Jewish life in the Second Polish Republic. As a journalist and collaborator of the New York newspaper “Forverts” he mainly photographed people in cities and towns.
The exhibition will hold around 40 photographs from the New York YIVO collection. It will also revive the memory of the great artist who spent a significant part of his life on Tłomackie in Warsaw and died in May 1942 in the Warsaw Ghetto.
The Jewish Historical Institute is one of the partners of the 5th MEMORIAL DAYS in Łódź.
