SALVAGED. A Collection of paintings, drawings and sculpture from the holdings of the Jewish Historical Institute. All pieces were created by Jewish artists in the 19th and 20th Century. Salvaged from the wartime destruction today are a very unique testimony of the history of the Polish Jews. The rural and urban scenes, portraits, genre scenes pictured by the artists help us to understand how diverse, dynamic, full of color and life was this Jewish world in the pre-war Poland.
Based on the scenes and moods recorded by the artists today the JHI educators can bring closer the unique atmosphere of the shtetl, culture, customs and everyday lives of the annihilated Polish Jewish community to visiting children and youth.
In Pictures: Workshops for the 5th graders from the Primary School No. 65 from Żoliborz, Warsaw.
