After January Uprising, Mikołaj, Herman Epstein’s eldest son, founder of the Warsaw-Vienna Railway, settled in Lviv in 1870. Another turmoils of the 20th century resulted in his descendants ending up, in difficult but unusual circumstances, in Western Europe. The descendants of Mikołaj living there, found by Dr Anna Wiernicka, exchanged memories and family photos and learned from her about their family history.
