For decades film makers have been trying to talk about the Holocaust using the language of cinema. Is it, however, permitted to adapt such critical experiences for the screen? Would it not be more appropriate, paraphrasing the thought of Adorno, to say firmly: „making films after/about Auschwitz is barbarity”? Our discussion will be aided by a collage of films prepared especially for this occasion by dr Bartosz Kwieciński (Centre for Holocaust Research of the Jagiellonian University). It will show both mistakes and distortions as well as the most outstanding depictions of the Holocaust in world cinema.
