Jean Amery, Belgian writer of Jewish descent, prisoner in concentration camps in Auschwitz, Buchenwald and Bergen-Belsen, in his most famous book “At the Mind’s Limits: Contemplations by a Survivor on Auschwitz and its Realities” analyzes, among others, the experience of being tortured claiming that one that has ever been tortured, will remain tortured and will never be able to regain the trust in the world.
